Text Box: ICMA members from Florida Can, JC Industries, Counts Containers, Poynette Iron Works, BoMich Welding, Rudco Products, Impact Plastics, and Gregory Manufacturing met in Florida for the 2nd ICMA meeting. The meeting kicked off with a tour of Florida Can, and the unveiling of the ICMA 2 yard container. The group then continued the meeting at the Four Points Sheraton in Lakeland, Florida. Topics of the meeting included the production, marketing, shipping, and sales of the ICMA 2 Text Box: yard container, marketing and advertising of the ICMA, hinge ears, health care, workmen’s compensation insurance, paint, welding wire, front rollers, bogee wheels, casters, and steel.
In addition to the tour of Florida Can and the meeting, most of the ICMA members in attendance found time for recreational activities like golf, bowling, and karaoke. Apparently it was too cold for water sports. Anthony Martorana was our host for dinner at La Palma, his favorite Italian restaurant and a round of golf at Grassland’s, Lakeland’s premier country club.

The ICMA 2 yard container is a driver friendly, steel framed, plastic container.  The complete container weighs only 422 pounds, which is 25% lighter than an all steel 2 yard front load container.  This new ICMA container is chemical resistant, and ideal for salt air environments.  The steel frame protects the plastic tub and keeps the tub from bowing.  If the frame gets damaged it can be repaired in the field.  If the tub is damaged it can be replaced.  ICMA members have the exclusive distribution rights of the Cascade plastic container.  The ICMA will buy the plastic tubs from Cascade Engineering and sell them to ICMA members.  The tubs will be drop shipped directly from Cascade to ICMA members.  ICMA members will manufacturer a uniform steel frame to protect the plastic tub.  There is a need in the market for the ICMA 2 yard container.  The ICMA will provide sales literature and advertising of the 2 yard container.  The tubs are available to be shipped to ICMA members only.  All of the ICMA members at the meeting in Florida ordered tubs in order to build frames so that they can show the complete container to their customers.  Anthony Martoana (Florida Can) has already had success by taking the prototype to his customers in his pick-up truck.  Guy Senkowski, (Poynette Iron Works) reports that he has already created a demand for the container by giving his customers a verbal description  of the container.

Florida Meeting

There are three trade journals that are interested in getting ICMA advertising:  The Hauler, MSW Management, and American Waste Digest.  These publications have national circulation.  The ICMA will get the greatest bang for our buck by placing ads that promote our members and sharing the space.  Our first opportunity for the ICMA to advertise will be to promote the new 2 yard container.  50% of the cost of running the ad will be paid by the ICMA, the other 50% will be shared by participating members.  A full page in The Hauler or American Waste Digest runs $1100, MSW Mgmt runs $3300.
